Ofsted has published the letters from the first 10 interim visits of FE providers that are taking place this Autumn. The five-page letters include inspectors’ findings from interviews with both leaders and learners regarding the provider’s response to COVID, however they do not include a judgement grade.

Information includes what actions leaders are taking ‘to ensure they provide an appropriate curriculum that responds to the reasonable needs of learners and stakeholders and adapts to changed circumstances’, and also what steps are taking to ensure the approaches used for building knowledge and skills are appropriately meeting the needs of the students.

The inspectors also questioned how leaders are monitoring and ensuring learners are safe and well informed of potential risks – including those online.

Eight of the 10 visits were to providers currently sitting at ‘requires improvement’, whilst the other two visits were to a ‘good’ provider and an ‘outstanding’.

These visits were designed for the interim before full inspections continued from January 2021 onwards, however this decision will be kept under review.
