As school leavers receive their results, many are frustrated to have not received the required grades they needed to attend their chosen university to study their future career. There is no need worry, whilst it may be frustrating to have not gained a university place, apprenticeships now offer an alternative route to many professions and mean you can earn whilst you learn – say goodbye to thousands of pounds of potential debt!

Apprenticeship standards are now available up to a level 7 – the equivalent of which is to a bachelor’s or master’s degree dependant on the course. Not just to school leavers, anyone aged 16 and above can apply for an apprenticeship.

Whilst apprenticeships do require certain entry requirements, which are different based on each subject, the different levels you can start on for an apprenticeship mean you may be able to complete an earlier level before working your way up to those 6s and 7s whilst still earning a wage and gaining industry experience.

We’ve got a list of 10 professions school leavers may not have thought they could go into, without attending university for a degree. The apprenticeships below span multiple levels, with equivalent markings from A-Levels to bachelor’s or master’s degrees.
